In celebration of the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on June 18 this year, an assortment of activities is set to take place in Yangzhou, East China's Jiangsu province.
The Duanwu Festival, otherwise known as The Dragon Boat Festival was established in remembrance of Qu Yuan, a ministerial scholar and patriotic poet of the state of Chu during the Warring States period (475-221 BC).
Yangzhou, a renowned historical and cultural city in China, is among the most popular tourism destinations in the country for visitors from home and abroad.
Starting from Thursday, here's a rundown of some of the events taking place in the city for the Dragon Boat Festival:
1. Slender West Lake

At the Slender West Lake, a famous scenic park in Yangzhou, celebratory activities such as brewing realgar wine, weaving colorful ropes and making sachets, are to take place to mark the festival.
Visitors, besides surveying the park, are welcomed to challenge themselves to get involved and the winners shall be awarded with either a duck egg or a rice dumpling.
