Shenyang launches 2018 summer tourism activities

The 2018 Shenyang summer tourism season kicked off at Shenyang Expo Garden on June 13.

The city, capital of Liaoning province, is hosting this year’s summer tourism season until September. It will consist of 147 activities in 15 categories and has been organized by the municipal government.

During the launch ceremony, dancing and musical performances were staged for visitors. Travel companies and exhibitors introduced tourist routes and various products.

The 16th lily exhibition at Shenyang Expo Garden also opened on the day, as well as a water lily exhibition.

The lily exhibition will showcase more than 500,000 lilies from 80 different varieties, and will last until late July, with the plants expected to blossom in early July.

The water lily exhibition will last from mid-June to late August, displaying 35,000 water lilies from nearly 70 varieties. With a diverse range of colors, water lilies will only bloom in the morning, or early afternoon.

In addition, Dragon Boat Festival activities will be held in the garden from June 16 to 18, including a demonstration of how to make rice dumplings and an egg painting activity.

Government officials are also hoping to push rural tourism at the event, in order to diversify the city’s tourism sector.
