The successful Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held on June 9 to 10 in Qingdao has gained the world's attention for the shared blueprints of a brighter future which were discussed by the leaders of the SCO countries.
The event also promoted Qingdao as the eastern Chinese coastal hub and put the splendid venue of the summit into the spotlight, which was designed by prominent Guangzhou-based architect He Jingtang.
The complex, reconstructed from one of the 2008 Beijing Olympic arenas, the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center, was completed in only seven months by He and his team. The building manifests elements of Chinese culture, meets the standards of a first caliber conference center and integrates unique characteristics of both Qingdao and Shandong province in its design.
