Shchepin Konstantin, a reporter with China Radio International, said the SCO unites nearly half of the world population, and its huge economic and military potential will have a bigger say in global affairs.

As President Vladimir Putin said recently in an interview with the China Media Group, the SCO has become a more global organization, Konstantin said.

SCO is also a very good instrument to promote economic cooperation. First, it's a security organization, now it goes much further, he added.

"The summit will be an historic event for Pakistan. The SCO focuses on peace and stability. As a new full member of the SCO, I believe the organization can help Pakistan better fight terrorism, extremism and separatism," Wajid Khan, a reporter from Independent News Pakistan, said.

Khan said he believes China's opening-up policy has significantly boosted China's economic development and the Belt and Road Initiative is a new version of opening-up, which will not only benefit China but also countries that participate in the initiative.

Pakistan has already seen results brought by the initiative. New road, railway and seaport projects already have been launched. Also, the initiative can be better implemented after the country's social situation becomes more stable with help from the SCO.
