The national college entrance exam, or gaokao - started on June 7, with a surge in test takers this year due to the "baby boom" at the start of the millennium.
Around 169,000 students in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province registered to take the exam in 6,066 exam sites, according to the Heilongjiang Ministry of Education.
