Maintenance and repair work on Songhua River Road Bridge in Harbin, Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province is scheduled to be finished by mid-June, ensuring the safe functioning of the 32-year-old bridge.
The major purpose of the project is to replace the previous five expansion joints by using of comb plate extension devices, which are of higher durability with a service life of over 10 years. They do not need to cover the steel plates on the bridge floor.
Currently, two of the five expansion joints have been replaced, and the rest three are undergoing construction.
Songhua River Road Bridge is a traffic hinge linking the southern and northern banks of the river.
Construction of the bridge started in May 1983 and was completed on Aug 30, 1986. The bridge has an overall length of 1,565 meters, and won many architectural design prizes.
