The environmental protection bureau in Yantai launched a series of publicity activities to celebrate this year's World Environment Day on June 5.
More than 30 volunteers from Yantai University gathered at the square to hand out brochures and reusable shopping bags to enhance people's awareness of environmental conservation.
Staff members from the local environmental protection bureau set up a consultation booth and answered environmental questions raised by citizens.
Peoples from private enterprises also joined together to pick up rubbish along the seaside and asked residents to sign up to show their concerns about pollution.
Those activities aimed to call for society to take more responsibility in preserving the environment and promoting green development.
"I'm so glad to take part in the publicity activity," said Mi Nan, a sophomore from Yantai University. "It is so important for us students to participate in such an action. Our awareness of ecological conservation has been strengthened and we got the opportunity to contribute to the environment."
Launched in 1974, World Environment Day is celebrated every June 5 and has developed into a global platform for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of the Earth's environment.
