The fifth classics reading contest targeting primary and secondary school students took place in Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region on May 25, with 24 teams across the city taking part in the final, reports Baotou Daily.
The city has held five consecutive primary and secondary school classics reading competitions. From each preliminary session to the finals, nearly 100,000 students from 108 primary and secondary schools across the city participate.
The reading contest is aimed at promoting traditional Chinese culture and deepening teenagers’ understanding of culturally-important works.
The entries included poems and classic texts, with readings often acted out at the same time.
Since the city launched the classics reading program in 2001, primary and secondary schools in the city have implemented a series of reading activities to promote literary classics and traditional Chinese culture among students.
