At around 9 am on May 22, the company got an emergency rescue message from the Mauritian coast guard that the Island Bird sailing vessel had encountered a sudden fresh gale at around 13 degrees south latitude and some 56 degrees east longitude.

The vessel had lost its main mast and four crew members were in danger.

When it got the message, the CNFC Overseas Fishery immediately initiated a contingency plan and by satellite telephone directed Jinsheng No 2 to go to the rescue.

After receiving the order, Jinsheng No 2 adjusted its course at once and proceeded to the accident area. Captain Wong Kaixue contacted the Island Bird without delay to confirm the rescue plan.

Jinsheng No 2 saved the lives of four Mauritian crew members after more than an hour of effort, overcoming high waves and other harsh conditions. The crew members are aged between 63 and 73. At their request, Jinsheng No 2 took them safely to the capital Port Louis on May 24.

The China National Agricultural Development Group's rescue mission sets a good example for State-owned enterprises' social responsibilities and international humanitarian spirit, and earns a good reputation for the country's maritime fishery.

The company has been highly praised by the Mauritius government and local residents.
