Shenyang Construction Committee plans to increase available parking spaces for shared bicycles in the city, the capital of Liaoning province, by 7,000 within three years, bringing the number to 10,000.
Shenyang currently has 200,000 shared bikes in operation, aiding its citizens’ daily short-distance transportation needs. This environmentally friendly mode of travel alleviates pressure on public transportation and offers an overall more efficient transport network.
With an increasing number of citizens choosing shared bikes, arbitrary parking of bicycles is becoming more of a problem.
More measures are being taken in Shenyang to provide standardized management of shared bicycle systems. In addition to increasing parking, electronic fence technology will be applied to designated parking zones, and those riders choosing to park their bikes outside these zones may face fines or a loss of credit points.
