Inner Mongolia autonomous region and Mongolia have forged a partnership to build Confucius Classrooms, according to an announcement made by the Education Department of Inner Mongolia on May 29.

A Confucius Classroom, established by Erenhot International College of Inner Mongolia Normal University (IMNU) and No 2 comprehensive school at Zamyn-Uud in Mongolia was inaugurated recently.

More than 300 officials and educational experts from Inner Mongolia's Education Department, IMNU's Erenhot International College and Zamyn-Uud participated in the event.

Confucius Classrooms are an extension of Confucius Institute programs, committed to promoting the study of Chinese language and culture by setting up effective and sustainable educational programs in primary and secondary schools and in universities worldwide.

The classroom in Zamyn-Uud, approved by Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), was the first Confucius Classroom built by the university in Inner Mongolia, according to Zhu Guangyuan, a director at the region's education department.

Zhu noted that the classroom was established to meet the increasing demands to learn Chinese among Mongolian students.

Inner Mongolia will give priorities and support for the development of the Confucius Classrooms to build them as a platform for cultural exchanges between China and Mongolia, he added.
