The Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department launched a new smart platform for law enforcement information sharing on May 29. It marks a significant step forward for the rule of law and is also an attempt to increase transparency in law enforcement.

After five months of research and development, the public security law enforcement information platform first underwent a test run in Zhuhai and Huizhou before it began operating province-wide.

The open platform is divided into six sections, making public the laws, regulations, rules, and normative documents involved, providing early warning and prevention guidelines for the public, and opening up administrative penalty decisions, administrative reconsideration decisions, administrative permission decisions, and administrative punishment decisions.

It allows the public to make inquiries related to law enforcement through various media, including computers, WeChat, and mobile application software.

Personal privacy, national secrets, and trade secrets are strictly protected on the platform, said the developer.

The platform will help protect people's right to know and will also increase people's sense of the rule of law, according to law experts.
