Regulations to protect tourists from unscrupulous salespeople, shady travel deals, unlicensed operations, and more are under consideration by the city government of Zhuhai.
New rules are stipulated in a draft of tourism regulations, which was reviewed at the 13th Session of the Standing Committee of the 9th Zhuhai Municipal People's Congress on May 30.
They state that tourist-focused shopping centers must be licensed and have a mandatory 30-day return policy for purchases arranged by travel agencies. The stores or travel agencies would refund the consumer within seven days from the date that goods are returned. Deceptive or misleading practices are to be outlawed and prices clearly marked.
Furthermore, officially approved and registered private residences will be allowed to enter the Bed & Breakfast market. Travel agencies themselves would require a permit for online operations with honestly stated qualifications and business scope.
The measures are intended to encourage all-for-one tourism, which will highlight Zhuhai's role as a special economic zone and coastal city while also featuring Xiangshan legacy and culture.
Tourism is a major industry at both city and county levels under guidance, coordination, and supervision. Therefore, a Tourism Development Commission will be established along with an expert consultation mechanism to further boost development.
