On May 26, the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Hubei Provincial Government signed an agreement to build “Double First-Class" universities and disciplines (i.e., a group of world-class Chinese universities and disciplines). The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Education CHEN Baosheng, the Secretary of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee JIANG Chaoliang, and the Governor of Hubei Province WANG Xiaodong.
The seven universities in Hubei Province involved in this agreement are Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), Wuhan University of Technology, Huazhong Agricultural University, Central China Normal University and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law.
This is the first collaborative agreement signed between the MOE and a local government since the launch of the “Double First-Class" initiative. It is expected that the implementation of this agreement will help to foster world-class Chinese universities and disciplines around the country, improve the quality of academic research, boost cultural transmission and international cooperation and prepare more Chinese students to become excellent academic professionals and innovative pioneers, who can better serve the needs of society.
