The students from Faculty of Robot Science and Engineering at Northeastern University have designed a dactylology interactive system to help the deaf communicate and integrate into society in Shenyang, Northeast China's Liaoning province.
Guided by Wang Fei, an instructor from Northeastern, students won the gold medal at the Enactus China Science and Innovation Championship in China.
The interactive system vocalizes sign language, transforming gestures into words by connecting to a server. Compared to traditional gesture recognition based on machines, the wristband increases the speed and accuracy of sign language transcription.
On behalf of China, the students will attend the 2018 Enactus World Cup Final in the US' Silicon Valley in October.
