Prior to her two-day visit to China, the German leader delivered a video speech to express her expectations for the visit and her strong willingness to enhance cooperation with China. While introducing her itinerary, she said she was looking forward to paying a visit to Shenzhen, a vigorous city where many headquarters and production bases of German companies are located.

Merkel was accompanied by nearly 20 business leaders from Germany whose companies have a combined sales volume of over 550 billion euros ($643.5 billion). Her visit to Shenzhen, at the forefront of China's Reform and Opening-up, is an indication of Germany's positive attitude about getting involved with China's new round of reform and deeper opening-up. The two countries have vast space for cooperation in the fields of digitalization, new energy business and auto-pilot vehicles.
