Qinghai Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone is established based on Qinghai Biotechnology Industrial Park, which was upgraded in November 2010.
Located in Chengbei district of Xining city, it has a planned area of 23.5 square kilometers. It has also convenient transportation as it is 6 kilometers from downtown Xining, 20 kilometers from Xining Airport and 4 kilometers from Xining North Railway Station, with the Xining-Zhangye Highway (National Highway No 227) and Haihu Avenue nearby.
Relying on the unique flora and fauna resources of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau as well as its supporting infrastructure and sound service environment, QHIDZ aims to develop the biological industry, modern Tibetan medicine, distinctive green food (healthcare products) with plateau characteristics, advanced equipment manufacturing and other high-tech industries.
The zone is also vigorously developing the cultural and industrial tourism industry to further enhance the cultural quality of the park and build a cultural cluster with plateau characteristics. At present, it hosts the Museum of China Tibetan Medicine Culture, Tibetan Plateau Museum of Nature and the Kunlun Jade Museum. The zone was awarded the title of "National Cultural Industry Demonstration Base" by the Ministry of Culture in 2012.
