Xicheng Expressway, a key passage linking downtown Zhanjiang with Zhanjiang West (High-speed) Railway Station, will finish construction by the end of September and be handed over for acceptance in December.
Costing 1.28 billion yuan ($201 million yuan), the dual eight-lane structure is built to national first-class highway standards and allows a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour.
With a total length of 7.35 kilometers, the expressway starts from Beizhan Road in the east and goes westward crossing Litang-Zhanjiang Railway before terminating at Shugang Avenue.
As a major supportive project, the expressway will have its main body put into use along with the opening of Zhanjiang West (High-speed) Railway Station before June 20. By then, it will slash the travel time between the city center and railway station by half.
