Jiangnan University and Jiangyin government agreed on May 18 to a project that will establish a university campus at Jiangyin.
Known as "the pearl of China's light industry higher education", Jiangnan University is one of China's national key universities functioning directly under China's Ministry of Education for Project 985 and Project 211, two key projects intended to establish a number of world-class universities and colleges.
Jiangnan University encompasses 18 schools and 51 undergraduate programs in such disciplines as engineering, science, literature, economics, management, law, medicine, agriculture, arts and education.
The university's internet of things-based digital energy management platform, built on eight different power reserve and management systems, provides the university with new ways of achieving accelerated yet sustainable development.
Utilizing Jiangnan University's teaching resources, the new campus will recruit students in such fields as smart manufacturing, high-end equipment manufacturing, the internet of things, high-end textiles, mechanical engineering, new energy, new materials, energy saving and environmental protection. Focusing on conducting scientific research related to its programs, the campus also hopes to investigate and address Jiangyin's economic and social concerns.
Jiangnan University was among the first higher education institutions approved by China's Ministry of Education to enroll foreign students, and has long been active in international exchange and cooperation programs.
Jiangyin government held a talent seminar on May 22, inviting 65 national universities and 156 key Jiangyin enterprises. Supported by Jiangnan University, the seminar was the largest of its kind to be held in the city.
