The first Global Nobel Prize Scientists Forum will take place in Shanghai's Lingang area in November, Roger Kornberg, chairman of the Global Nobel Prize Scientists Association, announced in Shanghai on May 11.

The forum, backed by the Global Nobel Prize Scientist Association, will focus on the latest research progress of Nobel Prize winners, cutting-edge technology trends, and ways to turn technology into productivity, according to Wang Hou, secretary general of the association.

Around 30 winners of the Nobel Prize, the Turing Award and the Fields Medal, and over 100 leading scientists, entrepreneurs and financiers will be invited to brainstorm about topics in bio-medicine, life science, artificial intelligence, new materials and new energy resources.

The permanent landing of the forum in Lingang was because the association values the area's comprehensive scientific disciplines and industrial divisions, Wang explained. The association is expected to develop the forum into the "Davos in the science field".

The association, co-founded by some Nobel Prize winners including Roger Kornberg, Barry Sharpless, and Michael Levitt in Hong Kong in November 2017, is aimed at promoting international academic exchanges and cooperation, collecting the innovations of Nobel Prize winners, and nurturing future Nobel Prize winners.

It will later unite more winners to set up a "Global Nobel Prize Science Fund" to support basic original scientific achievements, help young scientists grow further, and advance industrial development.

"We also hope to establish a number of open, cooperative and shared scientific and technological communities, which bring together the world's leading scientists and will include Nobel Prize scientists' labs and studios and provide international intellectual property services in Shanghai and other Chinese cities", said Kornberg.
