Sino-Canadian science research center unveiled in Shanghai

The launch of the Joint Research Institute of Advanced Science and Technology in Shanghai was announced on May 16, a result of the 2017 cooperation deal between Shanghai-based East China Normal University (ECNU) and Canada's University of Alberta (UAlberta). 

The institute will bring together leading global scientific research institutions and scientists in the fields of optoelectronic information and advanced nanomaterials to conduct cutting-edge scientific research.

Canadian Consul General in Shanghai Weldon Epp, a witness of the two universities' 2017 cooperation deal, said that the institute serves as a new platform for Sino-Canadian cooperation in higher education and technological innovations.

Qian Xuhong, president of ECNU, said that it is willing to work with UAlberta and use their advantages in optoelectronic information and advanced nanomaterials to contribute to the construction of further scientific and technological research centers in Shanghai. 

David Turpin, president of UAlberta, said that he has strong confidence in the two universities' cooperation.

UAlberta, located in Edmonton, Alberta, is a top 5 Canadian University. Its partnership with ECNU started in 2007 and has become stronger over the years.
