All mines on Daqing Mountain in Hohhot, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region are expected to cease operations, according to an announcement released on May 17.
The government of Hohhot said that it would force all plants to close by the end of June 2020.
Phasing out the mines is part of the government's environmental strategy.
According to the government, all mines in the area have now stopped operations and 18 unlicensed mines have been closed, leaving 10 mine prospectors to leave the area by the end of the month.
The government also plans to speed up environmental improvements in mining areas.
By the end of December 2020, the ecosystem in the area should be fully restored, according to the plan.
Environmental restoration is also underway in other mining areas of the city.
