China United Engineering Corporation, a subsidiary of China National Machinery Industry Corp, or Sinomach, recently completed the construction of the Gecelca 3.2 (G3.2) project, the largest coal-fired power plant in Colombia.
The G3.2, located in northwest Colombia's Cordoba, is a project built in the EPC mode. With a full load of 300 megawatts, the project is the first power plant constructed by a Chinese enterprise in Colombia and the first coal-fired power station built by a Chinese company through international bidding in South America.

Its successful connection to the grid and full load trial operation is a signal that it is ready for official operation and lays a solid foundation for following tests and delivery.
China United Engineering Corporation also contracted for the first phase - the 185-mW Gecelca 3 project; their combined installed capacity accounts for one third of the installed capacity of all coal-fired power plants in Colombia.

Colombia has always relied on hydropower and is short of electricity during the dry season. The Gecelca projects will increase the power supply for local residents.
According to the company, the plant was built with Chinese design, Chinese technology and Chinese equipment, and helps boost the globalization of the Chinese enterprises involved in the project and promotes the "Chinese standard" abroad.
