The City Study, as a key livelihood project in Xigang district, Dalian, will be launched year by year.
A reading service system, the City Study is based on the concept of a 24-hour self-service physical library. It is mainly designed to meet the reading needs of citizens who are busy working during the day or like reading at night.
Xigang district has now launched three city studies, including Shidao Street City Study, Xianglujiao City Study and Bayi Road City Study.
Shidao Street City Study will be put into service by the end of June, and is expected to be the first City Study opened in Dalian. Located at 326 Changchun Road, the three-tier city study covers a construction area of 400 square meters. To highlight its features, Shidao Street City Study has been designed according to the image of a book. Internally it is divided into three layers. Each floor is arranged with different reading areas, which will offer space for hosting separate events.
On the first floor, you will find the service desk, a self-service machine for book borrowing and a returning machine, a reading area for popular books, an e-reading area and e-newspaper area. The second floor has a children’s reading area, a reading area for social science books and a recreational reading area. On the third floor, you will find a multifunction reading area, a teenagers’ reading area and a self-studying area. The multifunction area, with no partition walls, will offer space for activities such as a reading salon which will allow residents to exchange new ideas and acquire new knowledge.
Besides Shidao Street City Study, those at Xianglujiao and Bayi Road will be launched soon. Xigang District will carry out management in service regulations, book acquisition and cataloging, and training for staff members and volunteers for all three city studies.
The city studies will allow citizens to use identification cards or readers cards of Xigang District Library. With its excellent reading surroundings, the city studies will stimulate citizens’ interest in reading interest and further enhance their cultural competence.
