The 2018 International Towerrunning Grand Prix hit Shanghai on May 13, taking place at the Wheelock Square in Jing'an district.

As the name suggests, tower running is a sport which involves running up tall towers, with usually the races taking place on the internal staircases of these buildings.

Themed on "love at the top of the city", the race attracted over 600 sports enthusiasts, who signed up as individuals, teams or couples.

After fierce competition, Ou Jiajing claimed the individual men's race with a time of 7 min 3 sec while Zhang Huiji took the women's first prize with a time of 8 min 43 sec.

This year's event coincided with Mother's Day. Each female contestant who finished the steps could receive a gift while other players could send their sincere greetings and wishes to their mothers by writing postcards at the scene.

The organizing committee also innovated its competition system this year by launching the standings for towerruning runners. All over the country, people can sign up for the standings to stand a chance of winning cash bonuses at the end of the year.

The Wheelock Square is a 61-storey skyscraper, 270 meters in height with 1,426 steps. It is currently the 91st tallest building in the world and has been holding tower running races since 2014.
