The second Pingyao International Film Festival was promoted in Cannes, France, on May 16.
Noted filmmakers and actors from home and abroad, such as Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda, and actors Xu Zheng and Huang Xiaoming, attended the promotion event.
Marco Muller, an Italian filmmaker and the art director of Pingyao International Film Festival, announced the theme of this year's festival – "Boutique Festival for the People" at the event.
The second film festival aims to focus on films about everyday life and enhance communication between filmmakers and audiences, using the festival as a platform.
The festival is not only to promote films, but also to highlight their links to our culture, said Marco Muller.
The second Pingyao International Film Festival will be held in Pingyao county, Shanxi province, between Oct 11 and 20. It will consist of several segments, including the Crouching Tigers section dedicated to discovering outstanding new directors and new films, and the Hidden Dragons section focusing on genre cinema from around the world.
Films winning the Roberto Rossellini Award or Feimu Award will be awarded 120,000 yuan, including 60,000 yuan to the director which can be used for the next film the director plans to produce.
