Guangzhou observes International Museum Day with various celebrations

The city of Guangzhou will observe the 2018 International Museum Day with a series of celebrations on May 18.

International Museum Day is an annual event aimed at promoting public awareness and participation in the international museum community's preoccupations. The theme of this year's event is "Hyper-connected museums: new approaches, new publics" and the venue for the special day is Guangzhou old town's iconic Zhenhai Tower.  

Nearly 30 booths will be set up, offering visitors a great opportunity to learn more about museums across Guangzhou, as well as the history and culture of the city. Visitors will be offered brochures and invited to interactive activities held by Guangzhou museums. Moreover, an online activity open to all mobile phone users on the regulations of Guangzhou museums was held from May 7 to 17, and the winners of the activity will be presented with special awards. Locals who don't have time to visit the museums during the day also have the option of going in the evening, as many municipal museums in Guangzhou, including the Guangzhou Museum and the Museum of the Nanyue King of the Western Han Dynasty, will be open from 18:30 to 20:30 on May 18.
