The Brain Science and Brain-Inspired Intelligence Research Center opened in Shanghai's Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park on May 14, with the aim of advancing brain science and brain-inspired intelligence research and to strengthen China's presence in this field.
The center aims to develop into a world-class brain science research institute and bring together high-end innovation resources from around the globe. It will encourage innovation in brain science, explore internationally-accepted employment and payment systems, and promote technology transfers.
Bai Chunli, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that the center should strive for world-leading achievements, introduce and nurture the world's top-rated scientists, become a globally-influential institute, and serve as a hotbed for innovation.
The center forms part of the Zhangjiang Lab, a national scientific facility co-established by the Shanghai municipal government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences last September. The lab strongly supports Shanghai's goal of becoming an international scientific and technological innovation center.
