Canadian Solar (Baotou), based in Baotou Equipment Manufacturing Industrial Park, is pushing forward with its efforts for the development of new energy industry in Baotou of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, according to a May 14 Baotou Daily report.
So far, the company's first-stage polycrystalline ingot plant has produced 805.05 megawatts (mW)of silicon rods and realized a production value of 445 million yuan ($70 million). The assembly plant has produced 131.1 mW of components and realized an output value of 300 million yuan. It is estimated that 1.5 gigawatts (gW) of silicon rods and 200 mW of modules will be produced throughout the year, with an output value of 1.6 billion yuan and a tax of 20 million yuan.
At the same time, the second phase of the company's single crystal plant has completed the construction of steel structures and it is expected to be put into operation in June. The polycrystalline plant has completed the foundation construction, and it is expected to be put into operation in 2019.
Founded in 2001 in Canada, Canadian Solar Inc. is a multinational firm that manufactures solar PV modules and photovoltaic solar power systems.
In 2009, Canadian Solar was granted rights to develop a 500-megawatt solar power plant in Baotou city.
The company also signed an agreement with Baotou in October 2016 to further boost the development of the photovoltaic industry in the city, part of which will include investing in new production lines in the city that will make 3 gW silicon chips and 600 mW power components.
