Activities themed around “Giving the world a smile” were held in Shenyang, Liaoning province, on May 8 to mark the annual World Smile Day, initiated in 1948.
In 2012, Shenyang started the “Smile Shenyang” program, with the aim of encouraging people to maintain positive attitudes towards life.
The city also published a series of books themed around smiling, and promoted them to readers all over the world. Millions of people around the world have participated in the activity over the past six years.
During the activities, songs, dances and poems on the theme of smiling were staged for viewers.
António Guterres, secretary-general of the United Nations also sent a letter of congratulations to praise the “Smile Shenyang” program.
