Tourist numbers soared in Hohhot, in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, during the May Day holiday.
Hohhot Tourism Administrative Commission said that the city received 1.85 million tourists during the three-day public holiday, an increase of 13.26 percent year on year, which generated 849 million yuan ($133 million) in revenue, an increase of 23.4 percent.
A significant number of self-driving tourists from surrounding cities chose Hohhot as their destination, as scenic places along nine recommended Hohhot tour routes held various interesting activities at discounts. The toll-free expressway policy during the holidays also attracted visitors.
