Tourist revenue was up 21.1 percent to 788 million yuan ($123.9 million), as 1.6 million tourists spent the April 29-May 1 Labor Day holiday in Zhanjiang, a year-on-year increase of 16.5 percent.
As a famous southern coastal city, Zhanjiang attracted a great number of visitors to the much-loved Jinsha, Jizhao and Baisha bays, Xiashan Sea-view Corridor, and Tianchengtai Resort, which sits on Beiquan Beach to the west of Wushi Port.
Embracing the trend of rural tourism, a raft of countryside and folk-art activities were available throughout the city over the holiday period. The occupancy rate of bed-and-breakfast inns in Nanji and Zurong villages reached 100 percent.
The Xuwen Pineapple Culture & Tourism Festival was another big tourist draw. A series of activities, such as self-driving and picking-up tours and cycling competitions, were held amid more than 70,000 mu (4,667 hectares) of pineapple fields.
As for Zhanjiang residents, many of them preferred a short trip by rail, as the Zhanjiang Railway Station serviced 14,197 tourists during the three-day holiday. The outbound passenger volume peaked on April 29, with 5,461 departures.
