Qi Great Wall Scenic Area

The Qi Great Wall, one of the four oldest great walls in China, has a history of more than 2,400 years. It winds its way for 618.9 kilometers through the center of Shandong province. It was a military defense line built by the state of Qi during the Spring and Autumn Period(770-476 BC) and the Warring States Period(475-221 BC). The construction of the great wall took more than 400 years to complete. The Qi Great Wall is even 300 years older than the Qin Great Wall, and is referred to as the "father of the Chinese great walls".

The Tai’an section of the Qi Great Wall is 82 kilometers long, of which the eastern part is the best preserved, which runs for 34 kilometers from Dajinkou to Gushan village of Xiagang. 

It was built with stones stuffed with rammed earth. This area, with an average elevation of 800 meters, is defined by its natural beauty. It has a forest coverage of 90%, and therefore the air is fresh. The area has its attractions in all seasons. It is a natural botanical garden with numerous kinds of trees, grass, flowers and herbs. There is a fishing area where tourists can cook with what they have fished.

Besides, tourists can also pick nuts and fruits in the scenic area, including chestnuts, walnuts, hawthorns and parsimonies. In winter the area has a special charm to it especially after the hills are covered with snow. There is grassland at an elevation of 960 meters on the top of the mountain.On the grassland there is a stone which marks the boundaries of Tai'an, Jinan and Laiwu. The sight of cows and sheep grazing on it make for a harmonious scene.

Reasons for recommendation: The scenic area, with an area of 6 square kilometers, lies at the boundaries of Jinan, Tai'an and Laiwu. Inside the area there are such scenic spots as the Qi Great Wall, mountain top grassland and pine forest.

Transportation: Drive north along provincial highway 243 from Tai'an, turn to Beixing road at Shanggang, and drive for 7 kilometers.
