Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Established in 1958, Tianjin College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was renamed the Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TUTCM) in 2006. The name International University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was approved by the State Education Committee (present Ministry of Education) in 1992. TUTCM is the teaching instructive director member of the MOE in both TCM and Medical Humanistic Quality Education, and plays the same role for the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS). The university was placed on the China first-rate university and first-rate program list and its Chinese Materia Medica was selected to the Double First-rate programs in 2017. The new campus of TUTCM, located by Tuanbo Lake in Jinghai District, Tianjin, is under construction. The new campus covers an area of more than 1.73km2 and the building area is about 600,000m2. The largest museum of TCM nationally, the Chinese Medicine Botanical Garden, the most advanced Science and Technology Park of TCM in the country and an International Education Center of TCM are all under construction at the new campus.
TUTCM takes undergraduate education as its main program, but also covers masters, doctoral, international education and post-doctoral fellowships. The programs include six categories of Medicine, Science, Arts, Management, Engineering, Education and 26 undergraduate programs. There are three first class doctoral programs in TCM, Chinese Materia Medica, Integrated Medicine of TCM and Western Medicine, 22 second class doctoral programs, seven first class master's programs, 42 second class master's programs, and three post-doctoral fellowships on TCM, Chinese Materia Medica, Integrated Medicine of TCM and Western Medicine. The university has 14 schools, two institutes, three affiliated hospitals and four teaching hospitals. The First Teaching Hospital is the State Center for Clinical Research, National Clinical Research Center for Acupuncture & Moxibustion and National Clinical Center for Acupuncture & Moxibustion. The Second Teaching Hospital is the Center for TCM Rare Diseases. There are 12,621 enrolled students, of whom 8,289 are undergraduates, 3,440 are postgraduates and 892 are international; there are also students from H.K., Macao and Taiwan.
TUTCM has a distinguished faculty of over 3,600 people, of whom 1,000 have senior titles, three are academicians of the China Academy of Engineering, two are TCM Masters, and many have been selected into programs such as Yangtze Scholars, Distinguished Young Scholars, National Excellent 10k Personnel Plan, New Century Million Talents Project, New Century Excellent Talents of MOE, and Distinguished Experts of the Ministry of Health.
In recent years, two teams were approved as Innovation Teams of Key Areas of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and three teams were named Innovation Teams of the MOE. The university has received Five state teaching achievement awards (one grand prize), and hosts three Special Programs of State Higher Education, one state teaching team, two State Innovation Experiment Areas, two State Center for Experiment Teaching Demonstration, a State Center for VR Experiment Teaching, six shared courses of State Quality Resources, one state bilingual demonstration course, and an Educational Center for College Students Practice. TUTCM trained 5,198 international students from 68 countries or regions in the past five years, as well as 5,827 participants from 80 countries or regions in special short-term training programs sponsored by the MOE, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
