A direct train service linking Baotou, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, with Guiyang in Guizhou province, Southwest China, has opened. According to local media, the service will offer passengers more convenient travel between the two cities.
The K691 train, running between Baotou and Kunming in Yunnan province, will be rerouted to the newly opened Chongqing-Guiyang Railway, departing from Chongqing, and stopping in Guiyang before reaching Kunming.
The new route provides a 27-hour journey between Baotou and Guiyang, while the Baotou to Kunming leg is reduced from 48 to 37 hours.
With the launch of the direct train service, all domestic cities except Hong Kong, Macau, and those in Taiwan, Hainan and Tibet can be reached from Baotou by train.
