A delegation consisting of members of the Kuching Fujian Guild in Fujian province's sister province Sarawak, Malaysia recently visited Xiamen, Fujian province.
It was the first time that the members of the Kuching Fujian Guild had visited their hometown since its establishment in 1871.
Tian Songmao, chairman of Kuching Fujian Guild, said that over the past one hundred years, Chinese people in Malaysia have established 60 independent Chinese secondary schools and 1297 Chinese primary schools in the country, but not yet a university.
Tian hoped that Xiamen University can help them build independent Chinese universities in Malaysia and also invited Chinese teachers to come to Sarawak on a teacher exchange program.
