Peony flower festival opens in N China

The First Peony Flower Festival was opened at Saihan district in Hohhot, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region on April 23, offering visitors the chance to view beautiful flower farms.

The festival exhibits more than 10,000 peony flowers of 21 varieties.

Peonies are considered the king of all flowers in China. Usually, the flower symbolizes peace, wealth, prosperity and good fortune. And they are widely cultivated for their ornamental and economic value.

“A common breed peony flower can cost nearly 200 yuan ($ 31.73),”said Li Jianhua, deputy manager of the Modern Agricultural Park in Saihan district.

Li added that the festival would introduce some rare peonies to help farmers cultivate more valuable breeds so as to promote the development of local agriculture.

During the festival, activities such as a food festival, fashion show and parent-child campaign will also be held.

The festival will last until May 20.
