Official data estimates that Yizhou district, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region will achieve a gross domestic product (GDP) of 1.88 billion yuan ($298.25 million) in the first quarter of 2018, a year-on-year increase of 7.5 percent.
Fixed asset investment grew 15.8 percent to 485 million yuan, while industries above a designated scale yielded a total output value of 1.69 billion yuan, 33.3 percent more than last year.
Agricultural development has accelerated local poverty alleviation. Farmers will see a boost in income, with roughly 300 hectares of walnut-planting area having been added, along with an additional 1,013.3 hectares of mulberry fields and 960 hectares of sugarcane plantation.
Residents have also been resettled from inhospitable regions to help improve their quality of life.
A total of 553 million yuan has been invested into upgrading infrastructure in areas of transportation, water conservation, education and electricity. Shantytowns near wineries, nitrogenous fertilizer plants and smelting plants have been renovated and upgraded, benefiting 585 families.
The silkworm and sugarcane industries have reached new highs in recent years, with a remarkable growth of 42 percent and 44 percent, respectively.
Four new village-level e-commercial service stations have been set up, contributing a turnover of 14.52 million yuan.
Yizhou district has also promoted the construction of tourist projects. The area received 1.18 million visitors from across the country during the first three months of the year, up 20.83 percent from the same period last year. The local tourism sector earned approximately 1.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 29.28 percent.
