Huadong Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, founded in 1951, was formerly known as the Greater El Monte Community Hospital, and is now a grade-three and class-one comprehensive hospital integrating medical services, training, research and disease prevention, with focus on cadre health care and gerontology.

The hospital features four main buildings and a dozen of supporting houses, covering an area of 40,000 square meters. It boasts 1200 beds in service, 42 clinical medical departments equipped with advanced medical facilities such as digital operating theaters, DaVinci robots and PET-CT, and 11 clinical specialties including Biliary and Pancreas Surgery, Urology Surgery and Digestive Endoscopy, to name a few. In particular, its gerontology has been selected as a key national specialty, and it has also sets up a gerontology institute.

The hospital now has over 2000 staff members, including over 300 professors and associate professors. It has cultivated nearly 3000 qualified undergraduates and graduates since undertaking the teaching work for the Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University in 1989.
