A new rare earth research and development (R&D) center is to be established in Baotou, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, reports Baotou Daily, with an agreement signed on April 12.
The center, which will feature new rare earth materials and applications, is receiving investment from Baotou Materials Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Baotou Rare Earth High-Tech Industrial Development Zone and Shanghai Huaming Gaona Rare Earth New Materials Co.
Baotou, the largest industrial city in Inner Mongolia, relies on industrial development to boost the local economy. The city is now committed to transforming into a modern industrial base for the nation, and is showing significant developments in the rare earth sector and also in high-end equipment manufacturing, metallurgy and communication technologies.
With abundant rare earth resources, Baotou is fast becoming China's leading supplier and R&D center for rare earth materials, and a national base for deep processing.
The city is making strides in the development of its rare earth industry with the Baotou Rare Earth High-Tech Industrial Development Zone serving as its base.
China’s only e-commerce platform dealing with the trading of rare earth products, Baotou Rare Earth Products Exchange, was established as an additional boost to the development of the sector.
