Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance (China) Co, Ltd (MSI China), originally established as MSI's Shanghai Branch in 2001, was changed into a wholly-owned subsidiary of MSI in 2007. MSI is a Japanese non-life insurance company merged from the former Mitsui Insurance Co, Ltd and the former Sumitomo Insurance Co, Ltd.

With a capital of 500 million yuan ($79.68 million), MSI China mainly works on property & casualty insurance, short-term health insurance, personal accident insurance, and the reinsurance of the insurance above. In 2017, it established the Jiangsu Branch, Guangdong Branch and Beijing Branch as the three major regional centers of Eastern, Southern and Northern China.
