The overall planning for Xiongan New Area in North China's Hebei province was approved by the central government on April 14, according to a document issued by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council on Friday.
The new area will be built into a world-leading digital city and high-rise buildings will be prohibited in principle, said the document released by Xinhua News Agency.
China announced the decision to set up Xiongan New Area about a year ago to advance coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
