Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI) visited the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOCAS) in Qingdao, Shandong province on April 14 to further promote the implementation of the China-Indonesian maritime cooperation fund project to create "Indonesian Marine Ecological Ranching".
This project is one of the most important undertakings of IOCAS's international maritime cooperation, which is centered on the Belt and Road Initiative.
Both parties will collaborate and cultivate talents in marine environment and biodiversity protection, marine biological technology research and development, natural product development, and marine ecological ranching development and demonstration.
IOCAS is actively building a marine science and technology cooperation network with countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. It has already reached strategic cooperation agreements with institutes in developed countries, such as the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Institute of Oceanography of the University of Plymouth, and the Helmholtz Institute of Coastal Research.
At the same time, it is collaborating with Russia, Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Portugal, Chile and other countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative to jointly establish cooperation mechanisms in marine science and technology, and to strengthen international cooperation in scientific investigations and research in polar regions.
