A ceremony to celebrate the relaunch of the municipal Ulan Muqir art troupe was held in Hohhot, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region on April 13.

Leaders from Hohhot National Performing Arts Group and artists from the troupe attended the ceremony.

The art troupe, directly affiliated to Hohhot municipal government, was first established in 1979. It has a close relationship with Hohhot National Performing Arts Group.

Previously, The Song and Dance Theatre of the arts group was known as the municipal Ulan Muqir art troupe, according to Pengfei, manager of Hohhot National Performing Arts Group.

The art troupe plans to develop a large number of artists and build itself into a leading troupe in the city in order to produce high-quality work, Peng added.

According to the government, the Ulan Muqir troupes from Tumd Left Banner, Wuchuan county and Togtoh county in the city bring 100 performances to the prairies of Inner Mongolia each year.

The relaunch of the troupe's activities is expected to help art troupes further art and culture.

Ulan Muqir is the Mongolian name for a traveling troupe that goes from one grazing site to another, performing for herdsmen in some of China's most remote areas.
