The 2018 International City Management Qingdao Conference was held in Qingdao, Shandong province, from April 11 to 12.

Jointly organized by the Information Research Center of International Talent SEFEA, the China University of Political Science and Law, and the Qingdao human resources and social security bureau, the conference was attended by 26 officials and experts in the areas of urban construction and public management from the United States and Canada, and over 500 domestic experts and city managers.

Themed as city governance under the big data background, the conference focused on the application of smart communities, intelligent transportation and big data in urban governance, discussed the prominent problems of China's urbanization, and shared city management experience.
At the opening ceremony of the conference, the MIT Qingdao City Science and Simulation Laboratory, co-built by the MIT City Science Laboratory and Isoftstone Group and set to begin operations, unveiled its nameplate, and the Xinhua News National High-end Think Tank Qingdao Center announced its settling in Shinan district, Qingdao, Shandong province to provide intelligent support for urban construction and marine economy of Qingdao.
An activity of "Foreign experts visiting Qingdao" was also held on that day, during which foreign experts visited the central business district of Shinan district, the Tsingtao Beer Museum, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, and the sub-district office on Helen Road. The experts communicated with grassroots people and formed a direct understanding of the city management of Shinan district; they also gave suggestions.
On April 12, leading experts successively delivered speeches on urban governance from an international perspective; discussions were arranged on relations between urban governance and urban growth, smart communities, intelligent transportation and big data.
