Shanghai's Jiading district inked cooperation deals with three top-rated research institutes affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on April 11 to co-build three technological platforms.

The institutes are the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics (SITP), the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics (SIC), and the Shanghai Acoustics Laboratory (SHAL).

A mobile energy industrial incubation base will be co-built by the Jiading Industrial Zone and SITP. The base is designed to have an R&D pilot line, incubation platforms and test labs.

It is expected to develop into an interdisciplinary industrial cluster centered on mobile energy and drive the area's intelligent microgrid and smart city development.

An advanced material industrial research institute established by Juyuan New Area and SIC will focus on R&D of applied technology, industrialization of new materials, technology transfer, and capitalization of technology.

A group of projects involving Jiading's key emerging industries of new materials, new energy vehicles, new generation information technology high-performance medical equipment and high-precision medical treatment are expected to be selected to boost their development.

A joint acoustics lab will be launched by the Jiading Central Hospital affiliated to Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences and SHAL.

They will work together on research on hearing screening and diagnosis, auditory perception and compensation, speech evaluation and rehabilitation, and biomedical supersonics, as well as compound talent training.

Jiading is a core area in Shanghai's international scientific and technological innovation center construction. With the help of leading Chinese research institutes the district has formed four industrial clusters – integrated circuitry and the Internet of things, new energy and smart vehicles, high-performance medical equipment and high-precision medical treatment, and smart manufacturing and robotics.

Zhang Xi, head of Jiading, said that the district was recognized as a science satellite town by the Shanghai municipal government as early as 1958, attracting the arrival of top domestic research institutes and universities.

A number of key scientific projects and industrialization projects have landed in Jiading thanks to the previous cooperation between Shanghai and CAS.
