Inbound passengers can pay import taxes on passenger luggage and parcels via their cellphones, according to an announcement by Hohhot Baita International Airport on April 9.
In addition to traditional payment options like cash and debit card, passengers can now make a payment by scanning a QR code through Alipay and Wechat and confirming the payment with their signature, according to the airport.
In cooperation with banks and payment companies, Hohhot customs has installed point-of-sale (POS) machines that can handle modern methods of payment at the airport, meaning that making tax payments is now a much more convenient experience for passengers.
The service is also expected to improve the efficiency of customs clearance procedures.
