Sanmenxia began using license plates specially designed for new energy vehicles on April 10, part of the third wave of pilot cities in Henan province to do so.
Officials introduced relevant policies and issued the plates to the first wave of new energy car owners at the inauguration ceremony.
The new plates are green in color and consist of seven characters, distinguishing them from the traditional blue-colored plates which have six characters.

Battery-powered electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and fuel cell vehicles are all classified as new energy vehicles.
The license plates are available at the vehicle administration office, via the online platform at https://ha.122.gov.cn, or through the smartphone app Jiaoguan 12123.
Henan province has up to this point issued over 30,000 license plates for new energy vehicles.
China is now encouraging residents to turn to more environmentally-friendly cars by providing subsidies and beneficial policies.
