Four berths in Xiamen home port is set to finish rebuilding at the end of this year, one of which is capable of receiving 225,000 ton liners, Xiamen Daily reported on April 6.
Xiamen liner home port is located in Xiamen port's Dongdu port area and its many berths are for cargo ships.
This rebuilding project is a key move of the city to transform and upgrade Xiamen port.
The project plans to build three berths for liners, including one for 150,000 ton liners and two for 80,000 ton liners, and one for ro-ro (roll-on roll-off) vessels, according to Xiamen Port Holding Group Co, responsible for the project.
The wharf of one of the berths is designed to satisfy the berthing of 225,000 ton liners, the largest one in the world. The facilities in the wharf apron are required to be upgraded.
After the four berths are put into operation, Xiamen liner home port's service would be further improved, contributing to the prosperous development of the coastal city's cruise industry.
