Shanghai needs to attract global talents and make full use of them to contribute to the city's development, said Li Qiang, Party secretary of Shanghai, on March 26 at a talent work conference.
The city will accelerate building a talent system with global competitiveness and is striving to create a world-class talent development environment. Its goal is to become one of the most desirable destinations for global talents.
Li asked local officials to realize the importance of talents and said that Shanghai's development depends on them.
Currently, Shanghai is working on building the "five centers" of economy, finance, trade, shipping, and scientific and technological innovation, as well as developing into a modern metropolis with global influence. Therefore, it aspires for talents more than ever, particularly high-profile ones.
Some of the world's leading scientists are expected to be gathered for basic research, hi-tech industry leaders for applications arising from the research, and entrepreneurs and investors with global visions for development of major industries.
Carefully thought-out services must be provided for talents to help them feel the warmth of the city.
